First up: Doctor Seaweed - marine biologist, seaweed evangelist and all-around wellness innovator (who also loves attending the Happy Place Festival!). We sat down with founder Dr. Craig Rose (aka Doctor Seaweed himself) to hear more about the story behind the brand.

What is the name of your brand and when was the brand founded?

Doctor Seaweed, founded in 2018.

Who’s behind the brand?

I'm Dr. Craig Rose but people know me as Doctor Seaweed.

What products or services do you specialise in and who are they for?

Doctor Seaweed is the trusted source of seaweed-based wellness. We offer expertly formulated supplements that harness the natural health benefits of seaweed - rich in essential nutrients like iodine, B-vitamins and antioxidants. Every product is thoughtfully packaged with purpose and backed by a commitment to sustainability. We specialise in making seaweed simple, accessible and effective - empowering people to feel their best, naturally. 

Our audience is primarily wellness-conscious women, often aged 30–65, who are navigating modern life with intention. Many are seeking natural ways to support their energy, hormones, skin and overall wellbeing, and they care deeply about both personal health and the health of the planet.

Why did you start Doctor Seaweed?

The honest answer? To meet Pamela Anderson. That childhood dream (fueled by endless episodes of Baywatch) eventually turned into something much bigger - a lifelong love of the ocean and a vision to help people look and feel wonderful through the power of seaweed.

As a marine biologist, I knew seaweed was this forgotten yet essential food, packed with natural goodness. I started Doctor Seaweed to bring it back, making it easy, accessible and sustainable, so that more people can benefit from everything it has to offer. It’s about reconnecting with nature in a way that supports both our health and the planet.

What are your core brand values?

It’s not about trends. It’s about creating lasting, meaningful impact through something as timeless and powerful as seaweed.

What’s the journey been like so far? Any highs or lows?

It’s been an incredible journey of constant evolution. What started as a mission to make seaweed accessible has grown into something far bigger - with over 20 million capsules sold and thousands of people now experiencing the natural benefits of seaweed in their daily lives.

One of the most rewarding parts has been hearing the real-life stories: customers sharing how our supplements have helped them feel more energised, more balanced and more themselves. A recent highlight has been the launch of our UK-first collagen supplement with approved health claims for skin. It’s a major milestone that reflects our commitment to offering high-quality, science-backed products that genuinely work.

Do you have any favourite products?

I'm incredibly proud of all our products but if I had to choose a standout, personally, for me it would be FOCUS+.

FOCUS+ is a carefully formulated supplement that combines our signature Scottish seaweed with other essential vitamins to support mental clarity, energy and focus throughout the day. It’s perfect for anyone juggling a busy lifestyle, needing a little extra support to stay sharp and switched on, without the crash that often comes with coffee or synthetic energy products.

Another hero is our Pure Seaweed supplement. It’s our original product and still our bestseller - a great, simple way for people to experience the benefits of seaweed for the first time. Just one capsule a day provides natural iodine to support energy, metabolism and cognitive function. It’s often where people start their journey with us and it’s where the magic begins.

Do you have any exciting plans for the brand coming up?

Absolutely. We’ve just launched our new seaweed-based collagen and are working with Carla Cressy from the Endo Foundation with innovations around endometriosis support which is launching in October!

We’re all about staying ahead with wellness, supporting genuine health concerns all while staying true to the sustainability roots of seaweed.

Why did you want to work with Happy Place?

Happy Place attracts people who are genuinely interested in their wellbeing and in discovering products that actually make a difference. It’s a space where curiosity, honesty and good conversation come together and that’s exactly the kind of environment we want to be part of.

If you could share one piece of advice to people who aspire to start their own brand, what would it be?

Don’t stop dreaming. Whatever your idea is, believe in it, believe in yourself and keep going. The journey is never linear but it’s always worth it.

And finally… how do you find your Happy Place?

On the boat, on the water or scuba diving under the water. Anywhere in and around the sea makes me feel relaxed and at ease - it’s somewhere I can switch off from it all.
