Our Happy Place Book Club Pick for April is Bare by Lorna Tucker. Let me tell you, this book absolutely hit me between the eyes. It’s a very important read. This is essentially a sort of autobiographical look at Lorna’s life, when she was homeless and living on the streets, and I’m not going to lie, it’s a tough read at time, but it’s also such an important one.
We don’t really hear about female homelessness anywhere near as much as we do male homelessness, and also Lorna was a teenager at the time she homeless. I think the one thing I really took from this book is that there’s so much stigma around homelessness, and there’s so much judgement and assumptions made, and so this book really humanizes the homeless situation, and you get to know Lorna and how she ends up on the streets.
It’s one hell of a story, but there’s so much hope in there as well. I urge you to read this with us and getting chatting about it on Instagram.
